Giant Python – Darwin Botanic Gardens
The Friends of Darwin Botanic Gardens engaged NHP to create a cheeky, long-term display aimed at enriching the visitor experience.
Darwin is known for it’s large reptiles, so NHP produced a 5-metre life-like python mounted permanently, high up in a magnificent rain tree near the entry of the gardens.
This python was made of pigmented silicon rubber to withstand the harsh NT climate, and with garden staff NHP carefully secured the python on a large horizontal branch.
The next day, crowds of people, including the media gathered around the tree, looking up, debating as to whether the python was real.
Years on, local and overseas visitors get a real surprise when they look up, creating a talking point as hoped.
